A solitary white horse grazes in a pasture surrounded by stone walls on the island of Inishmore, the largest of the three Aran Islands. Over the centuries, these sparse pastures have been built over time by fertilizing the rocky soil with seaweed found along the beach.

Twilight descends on Tanzania抯 Mount Kilimanjaro. Although Kilimanjaro is located just 200 miles [322 kilometers] south of the equator, the combination of sun angle, thin atmosphere, and extreme elevation means that its upper slopes experience "summer every day and winter every night."

With crowns of flowers in their hair, Tahitian women watch an outrigger canoe race, part of Tahiti's most important festival, Heiva i Tahiti. Held annually from mid-June to mid-July, this festival coincides with French Polynesia's Autonomy Celebration on June 29th and France's Bastille Day on July 14th and is just one way French Polynesians are keeping their culture alive with traditional dances, fire walking competitions, and typical Tahitian sports races (like palm-tree climbing and stone lifting).

A canoe glides over the windowpane waters of Cypress Spring. Although the heart of Florida's springs lies below ground, the soul reclines on the surface where Floridians have long admired the sparkling pools and moss-dripping oaks that surround them.
